PRC-F1

Manpack PRC-F1 F1 Accessories MX-F3
Manpack PRC-F1 Accessories MX-F3 field test set

Built by AWA in the 1970s. It is a HF fully synthesized transceiver, operating from 2 to 12MHz. It operates CW or USB, with an AM compatibility mode. A whisper function is provided for speech modes. A 12 pole crystal filter and Collins mechanical filters allow variable bandwidth on receive. The design is fully silicon solid state. The set can be used as a manpack, ground station or vehicular installation. The photograph shows the rig in the vehicle mount, with the antenna tuner at top left and power supply at top right. The transceiver has an internal NICAD battery, which is charged by the power supply. Alternatively a 10 channel battery charger can be used. When used as a manpack, whip antennas with a spring base are used, and are tuned by the tuner in the radio set. In ground station or vehicular applications the external ATU can be used to tune a whip, balanced or wire antennas. My example has an 8ft whip for manpack use and a 15ft whip with mounting bracket for vehicular use, as well as wire antennas and a dipole. Output power is either 1 Watt or 10 Watts PEP.
